Students will engage in reading, listening and speaking as they perform this delightful Reader's Theatre version of the Princess and the Pea. If desired, the show can become a narrated pantomime, fully produced with costumes, etc. for an experience you and the students will be proud of.

Synopsis:
A Prince searches far and wide for the Princess of his dreams to marry, but to no avail. One stormy night, when he thinks all is lost, a young bedraggled maiden appears at his castle door claiming to be a real Princess. The Prince is delighted, but his mother tests the young maiden by having her sleep on top of a bed made of 20 mattresses and one solitary pea at the bottom of the stack. When the maiden has an awful night's sleep, the Queen mother knows she is a real Princess because she has sensitive skin, and approves the marriage of her son to the young maiden.

Description:
This 10 minute Readers Theatre script is designed to be read aloud by a chorus of actors who sometimes read together as a chorus and sometimes as individuals representing different parts. If desired, actors may also be chosen to pantomime the parts described in suggested or in full costume. Parts to be pantomimed include the Prince and the King, the Princess and the Queen, and the courtiers of the castle and wanna-be princesses of the land, of which there can be any number. The hard copy version is 8 1/2" x 11" in size with spiral binding (which lets it lie flat on a desk, when opened) and color cover.
