Chikae Ishikawa
Artist-consultant
Chikae is an accomplished performer (singer, dancer and actress)
with extensive production and teaching experience. She is a
Dalcroze trained music and dance/movement teacher at the Thurnauer
School of Music at JCC on the Palisades, and at the Lucy Moses
School of Music and Dance in Manhattan. She is also a music/voice
and ballet teacher for an after school program at PS 130 in
the Bronx, as well as an voice teacher for the New Jersey
Childrenís Choir in Montclair, NJ. She recently taught a
10-day conflict resolution residency at IS 14 in Brooklyn.
She has served as a voice/music director for a theatre arts
summer camp in Queens, taught advanced jazz dance workshops,
and coached young actors for a historical drama.
Chikae has performed as a singer, dancer and actress in major
venues including the Shubert Theatre on Broadway, the
Metropolitan Opera House, Madison Square Garden, Kennedy
Center, and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in such shows as
Chorus Line, Nine, and Stop The World! I Want To Get Off.
She worked with Meredith Monk, Michael Bennett, Tommy Tune,
and Anthony Newley. She toured Italy as a solo singer for
the Harlem Gossi, a Gospel Choir, and performed as a Jazz
vocalist in major jazz clubs in Japan and New York.
Her education/training includes: Santa Monica College
(Theatre Arts major), Mannes School of Music (Jazz Theory
and piano, etc.), Arts in Education Certification from Marymount
Manhattan College, Dalcroze School of Music (Teacher Certification
Track: Eurhythmics, Improvisation & Solfege), private music
theory/composition studies with W.A. Mathieu, Jazz improvisation,
vocals & piano with Dr. Barry Harris.
