No holiday is more a celebration of the people than the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo. Its roots lie in the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla, a victory that drove imperial forces out of Mexico and established the people as the rulers of the neighbor to our south.

Synopsis:
As several friends discuss an assignment for Cinco de Mayo on the way home from school they decide to stop by the house of a mysterious woman who turns out to be the descendant of the hero of the Battle of Puebla. In rap song she describes to them the history of the holiday and explains why we celebrate Fiesta on the fifth of May.

Description:
This short play, ideal for a Cinco de Mayo presentation, contains several rap songs, features 2 strong male characters, 2 good female characters and several smaller supporting roles and a chorus of soldiers which is expandable in size, depending on the number of students to be used. Good for upper elementary and middle school students. Can be intergenerational, as there are both adult and child roles. The hard copy version is 8 1/2" x 11" in size with spiral binding (which lets it lie flat on a desk, when opened) and color cover.
