RESPONSES TO OUR BOOKS and PROGRAMS
To Teaching Curriculum Through the Arts:
"I am so thrilled since I have found "Teaching Curriculum Through The Arts." I am a teaching artist in Dance and Drama. It is so comforting to know I have such a phenomenal resource.
Every time I get a new residency I go straight to this book. It is jam packed with activities, strategies, theatricalization of non-dramatic material (which is extremely useful in partnering in the classroom). The list goes on and on.
I then proceed to go to the CES website to look for more resources like plays and go back again to "Teaching Curriculum Through The Arts" and see different strategies to the project I have picked. This combination of resources has made my residencies very exciting! I get incredible feedback from the students and teachers and always give "Teaching Curriculum Through The Arts" and the CES Website address to the teachers for them to continue this illuminating work.
Thank you for this opportunity, CES!"

“I treasure all the books I got at your workshops, and they are getting dog-eared from use (just this week, I taught a mini-lesson on action verbs using one of your games, and introduced some vocabulary words.) Not only have I used the very creative, yet practical activities to integrate curriculum and to teach a variety of concepts and skills, but I have actually ventured into teaching a theater elective in improvisation.
“As you know, East Side Middle School, a NYC public school in District 2, is engaged in staff development which puts us on the leading edge of the move to integrated, thematic curriculum. I have been writing and developing the sixth and seventh grade communication arts curriculum here for four years, and I can honestly say that your approach is very much in “sync” with what we are learning to do, and I applaud your innovation.”

"Thank U sooo much. I am doing theatre residencies at the greatest school. I am using your book a lot. My residencies range from scripts to improv's and creating their own scripts. Thank u for such a wonderful tool."

“I found “Teaching Curriculum Through the Arts” to be extremely rewarding and helpful to me. I have great confidence that all that I have learned will be of great use to me in my Special Education English classes.
“I will use many of the alternative teaching techniques as aids to my own style of lesson presentation. I am extremely pleased and I recommend others avail themselves of this alternative to classic teaching techniques.”

“The activities can be used in so many ways – for psychological, social, self-esteem, self knowledge development, for exposure to art for middle school, for participation in art for middle school, for integrating subject matter into their lives.
“I wish they’d had these activities when I was in school. In our technological, mass media, violent age, these activities are, I believe, virtually a necessity for children to experience their own humanity.
“I wish I could do this kind of ‘play’ on a daily basis! It is fun and alive and integrating, and makes me feel good about myself. I am sure the children feel the same way.”

“Originally from California, they (CES) have been in N. Y. for some years now. I learned about them from our district, yet I don’t think many people know what CES has to offer. The thematic approach through the dramatic arts is so exciting, and the techniques they present (see our office copy of “Teaching Curriculum Through the Arts” for a sample) can be used to teach science, math and English.”

“It assisted us in the design of a thematic curriculum, in which we addressed all academic subject areas we needed to teach, but related the lessons to the central theme. Then, we taught the lessons through arts-based strategies. Each teacher executed her curriculum design and, in addition, worked with her students on theatrical techniques leading up to a class performance—the culmination of the thematic curriculum. Not only did the students in our classes thoroughly enjoy it, but they learned by doing, both about theatre and about their curriculum. Thank you.”

"You saved my Professional Improvement Plan with the (Enlightened Classroom Management) book you offer. I was able to complete the mid-year evaluation without any demerits! The best compliment I got was from an administrative secretary who said "You must be doing something right if the frequent offenders club wants to get into your class and your extra curricular club!"
